Palm Beach Surviving Sand and Salty Water
Manicaria saccifera palm leaves serve as a roof and last longer than corozo or guano palms. The fibers of this coastal palm can also be used to make handicrafts for the home and thus generate income for the family.
Manicaria saccifera is found mainly in the coastal areas of Belize, Izabal, Honduras and as far south as South America. It should be noted that the Manicaria saccifera seed pods look like masses of bull balls. It received the name of Pilophora testucularis Jacq. by a humorous botanist about a century ago.
