Interview with Dayaker Reddy

During SGI Dubai 2019 we had the opportunity to talk with Dayaker Reddy, president of “Indian Printing Packaging & Allied Machinery Manufacturers (IPAMA”). Who gave us his point of view of where is the “Digital Printing Market” heading for 2019.

 

Q. Can you tell us more about Printpack India exhibition?

This is our fourteen edition of our global exhibition. We started in 1991 (The show is every two years). We come under the top five exhibitions in the world related to the printing and packaging industry.  We cover the corrugation industry (which is a very booming sector across the globe) and the labeling printing industry. For our next edition of Printpack India (2021) we will be adding a few more segments like digital signage, 3D printing, and packaging also.

 

Q. How do you see the digital printing industry vs the traditional printing way?

I will put it in this way: “If we talk about the past two decades, printers used to print a maximum of five to six jobs. Today printers are capable of printing seventy to eighty jobs”. Obviously the job demand has increased and thanks to technology the industry is more competitive today. So on those days, printing five jobs was a big task; today two hundred jobs can be printed very easily. So we are not saying that traditional printing its going down. Traditional printing will complement digital, along with silk screen printing and many others. So it’s the combination of all the printing processes.

 

Q. Tell me about the Indian textile market

Digital textile industry is booming in India. We are one of the Top 5 in the world in the textile industry, specially these days because of the digitalization in printing.

 

And secondly why digital is doing good in textile its because its eco-friendly. Now slowly in India the pollution control boards are working very aggressively. The next option is digital only and secondly India has being producing all the wallpaper for US and Europe, hence that market is shifting into digital textile now.

 

Q. Can you tell us a prediction for the Indian Digital Market for 2019, why should the world keep an eye on it? 

Our big advantage is the connectivity with the seaports and the major fact it’s the labor cost.

We are doing really well. If you see all the manufacturers across the globe we have in India, everybody is there now. Even recently Konica Minolta has set up its own subsidiary in India now. HP is already there, Xerox is already there.

Now India is standing in digital segment in seventeen or nineteen place, but definitely we are going to become number two in the world in next couple of years.

 

Q. Can you tell us a prediction for the Digital Market for 2019?

It’s already doing good. If we talk about last Drupa, you could see only digital technology. This year we are expecting only digital technology with artificial intelligence; which is going to be the big subject. We have seeing some of artificial intelligence working side by side with the digital segment and so are many other segments of the digital printing industry. We are expecting the same thing in the coming print show in China (APPPEXPO, Shanghai) also.
