Durst Rhotex 500 is the first of its kind, a 5-meter textile printer; launched in Europe at FESPA Amsterdam May 2016 and in North America at SGIA October 2016.
Before the Rhotex 500 was launched, the widest textile printer was able to print 3.3-meters wide. This year, Italian manufacturer ATPColor launched the second of its class, a 5.3-meter textile printer at FESPA Hamburg 2017, so Durst is now in for some competition.
An industrial direct-to-fabric printer up to 5-meters wide is ideal for seamless printing at a large scale. This printer is ideal for soft signage point-of-sale:
• Backdrops (theaters, arenas, event venues, etc.)
• Backlit displays
• Window displays
• Trade show graphics
With innovations in the textile field, such as width addition, we can now expect more creative and ingenious applications for wide-format fabrics.
The Rhotex 500 is designed to print onto polyester or polyester blends (at least 50% polyester) fabrics both coated and uncoated. This raises the question of who will supply the 5-meter fabrics? Heytex, SENFA (DecoPrint) and Texo Trade Services (TTS) all offer polyester fabrics up to 5-meters.
Some of the advantages of fabric printing are that they are easy to fold, transport, install, wash and recycle. Durst Rhotex 500 uses eco-friendly water-based disperse dye inks printed materials can be easily recycled.
Ink colors available for the Rhotex 500 are traditional cyan, magenta, yellow and black, plus light cyan, light magenta, light black, orange or violet. The ink tanks have a capability of 18 liter (4.7 gallons), which are refillable while printing.
We have seen the Rhotex 500 at both FESPA Amsterdam and SGIA 2016, and have witnessed the beautiful results produced by it. We are looking forward to seeing it in future trade shows and possible evaluating it at their facilities.
